I live in Missouri, and this is the only brand of whipping cream available in our state, that I know of, with no additives. I use whipping cream and heavy cream a lot when cooking various dishes, sauces and making ice cream. We didn’t have trouble finding natural creams here until a few months ago, when our go-to organic dairy brands began adding gellan gum to their products. I found out only as I was pouring it into my ice cream mix, and noticed a really funky consistency…WAY too thick and goopy…then read the label and saw that gellan gum was now being added. Not only did it behave very differently, it tasted off and produced ice cream that didn’t melt into liquid, but into snotty clumps of goo in the sink…even after sitting for hours. I tried Kalona’s whipping cream for the first time this weekend. I whipped some up to serve with homemade apple pie and wasn’t disappointed. I use a stand mixer and it whipped up beautifully light, fluffy and airy. It was nice and soft like fresh whipped cream is supposed to be, not thick and heavy like cream with thickeners produces. It tasted just like I remember from my childhood. It is the only whipping cream I will purchase from now on. When you go to Amazon’s Whole Foods Market store, there are many negative reviews for this product, saying how it doesn’t whip or is “clumpy” and spoiled. I personally believe these are from buyers who don’t understand that the product is not homogenized, and many are simply smear campaigns from major brand’s marketing divisions…seeing as how they “mention” other brands by name in their reviews as being SO much better 🤦♀️. Several of the major organic dairy producers have recently partnered with investment groups like ***guard and *****rock to focus on “green initiatives” and this is about the time we began seeing additives used in all our organic creams…at least in my state. I hope Kalona is committed to remaining independent, and will continue to provide us with unadulterated, clean dairy for years to come.

I found out about kalona from someone on Instagram. I went to the supermarkets in my area and to my surprise they don’t carry all the Kalona products. The only one I can find is this whipping cream.
